Business on the Internet is growing by leaps and bounds.

According to eMarketer, an Internet market research analyst based in New York, spending for online advertising in 2007 amounted to about 19 percent of all spending in advertising, with a total spent of approximately $19.5 billion.

Search engines like Google, Yahoo and Microsoft have all facilitated a sea change in advertising.

Gone are traditional ad revenue streams from hard copy images found inside your local favorite newspaper. While such advertising still exists, newspapers are seeing a transformation of their business to one that reflects a matrix of Internet advertising strategies.

Enter the Irish Ad Network, which is aimed at reaching Internet users interested in specific Irish products and services; all in certain geographic regions. The network works to create a platform that will connect advertisers with a network of Irish-oriented Web sites.

"We can target banner ads to Web pages by content, and by location of the site visitor," said the site's creator, Connell Gallagher. Gallagher also publishes The Irish Emigrant [a media partner of New England Ethnic News, or EthnicNewz.org].

Internet advertising is the marketing of products or services over the Internet and can result in lower costs and potential increases in revenue for businesses that advertise in such a manner. Internet marketing brings together design, development, advertising and sales. The effort made includes a comprehensive marketing strategy that matches the company's business model, advertising type, media and design.

For those who use the Irish Ad Network, the focus is on target audience for advertisers. For example, the network utilizes user questionnaires to determine how often a user goes to Irish-oriented Web sites - daily, weekly, monthly or rarely.

"The Irish Ad Network has vastly improved the process of reaching the online Irish marketplace," said Gallagher. "Our service offers advertisers a highly-controlled forum that reaches across a broad network of Irish-oriented Web sites."

According to Gallagher, the Irish Ad Network provides advertisers a specific or target audience that is motivated to use that firm's product or service. The network manages a company's advertising campaign using a Web-based Ad-Management system. In addition, the network also targets a firm's message to maximize the company's return on their investment.

The Irish Ad Network: Other provisions

The Irish Ad Network's strategy for advertising success relies on a series of steps. Those steps include:
* Banner ads that will appear on a network of Irish Web sites and e-mail newsletters.
* An ad rate is based on "cost per thousand," or CPM.
* The CPM rate will depend on the ad size and the selected targeting options.
* The Ad Management system will decide what ad to display, based on the criteria selected by the advertiser. For example, banners will be selected depending on such variables as the content topic or the geographic location of the site visitor.

Banner ads are priced on a CPM basis - cost per thousand ad views. The CPM rate varies based on the ad size and the level of geographic targeting.

Purchasing an ad on the Irish Ad Network provides a banner ad on a network of Irish-oriented Web sites and allows ad impressions to be spread over any period of time.

There is no charge for design of a basic Web banner, firms may submit their own animated "GIF" banner and there is full control and reporting using the system's Web-based management console.

Other components of the Irish Ad Network's efforts include the specific size of the banner ad, which amounts to 468 x 60 pixels. But, according to Gallagher, this may change.

"We will introduce support for other ad sizes and positions in the near future," he said. "We can support ads appearing in e-mail newsletters."

Stay away from IrishAdNetwork.com

My experience has been less than pleasant. As a publisher of their adverts, the Irish Emigrant has failed to provide us with the revenue due. Avoid them, and shame on them!
