Shoghaken, Armenia’s premier folk ensemble, performs an extraordinary program of intricate folk dances, haunting lullabies and love songs.

The group uses traditional instruments, including theduduk (a double-reed lute carved from the root of an apricot tree), kanoon (72-stringed lap harp) andkamancheh (spiked-fiddle), to create a sound that is seductively familiar yet thrillingly exotic.

The Shoghaken, which recently performed with Yo-Yo Ma in the Silk Road Ensemble, evokes the soul of Armenia.
