El Planeta Presents Poderómetro (Powermeter) Top 100 Most Influential People in Latino Community

Hispanic News Press and its El Planeta [1] (www.ElPlaneta.com [2]) newspaper, based in Brookline, Mass., announced their third annual “Poderómetro – Powermeter 2007” 100 most influential people in the state's Hispanic community.

 

A red-carpet event that acknowledged the 100 people (listed at bottom) took place on Dec. 6, 2007, at Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge, Mass.

At the event, Hispanic News Press, publisher of Spanish-language El Planeta, unveiled its first Poderómetro magazine, which features the 100 "Powermeter" persons for 2007.

Robert Rodriguez, president of Dunkin' Donuts, appears on the cover of the debut magazine (see image below).

Frieda Garcia, community activist and founding director of La Alianza Hispana, received the El Planeta 2007 Award.


"The Poderómetro is our way of recognizing 100 individuals that make a difference in our Latino community. It's definitely not a perfect list...we might have left people out, but it is a huge step ahead...to raise our profile as Latinos," said Marcela Garcia, managing editor of
El Planeta, in an e-mail to New England Ethnic News. (El Planetais a media partner of New England Ethnic News.)

In a a press release from Hispanic News Press, El Planeta publisher Javier Martin said that readers submitted their nominations for the 100 persons, and an advisory committee also provided nominations and votes.

The members of the advisory committee were:

- David Beard, editor of Boston.com
- Peter Kadzis, executive editor of Phoenix Media/Communications Group, publisher of Boston Phoenix
- Anna Kerr,
El Planeta editorial committee member
- Alberto Limonic,
El Planeta editorial committee member
