New America Media: Time for Immigration Reform is Now

The White House and members of Congress must move quickly on enacting a just and humane immigration reform package that will reunite families, reinvigorate the economy, and remove the term "illegal or undocumented immigrants" from the dialogue in this country.

Ethnic media, which reaches more than 60 million adults in the United States, calls on Congress to move decisively on immigration reform because there are few issues as important to the nation's well-being as an overhaul of the inefficient, inhumane and economically-debilitating immigration system.

More importantly, we are also urging our readers and viewers to contact their senators and congressmen and let them know that immigration reform must be a national priority. The immigration system is broken not just for 12 million undocumented immigrants, but also for specialized workers blocked from joining the American economy because of narrow quotas, and mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters of U.S. citizens who must wait for years before being reunited with their families.

Our nation needs comprehensive immigration policies that will replace a broken system of raids and roundups with one that protects all workers from exploitation, improves America's security and builds strong communities. It's time to end the division between workers, which has allowed big business to exploit both sides.

Clearly, working-class citizens and immigrant workers have much in common - dreams of better homes, education for their families, and quality healthcare. There is more that brings us together, than separates us. United we can be a strong force for change, changes that bring more workforce safety and humane conditions.

Immigration is often portrayed as an explosive, divisive issue. In reality it's not. Since the repeal of the national origins quota system in 1965, which discriminated against certain immigrants, a consensus has been building towards an immigration system that respects the country's core values.

These include economic opportunity, equality under the law regardless of ethnic background, and an embrace of the world's most innovative, energetic and ambitious workers. Now, with the country facing serious competition from workers abroad, it's more important than ever to create a world-class immigration system. It's for the good for families, good for communities and good for America.

ARABIC:حان الوقت لتعديل قوانين الهجرة البيت الأبيض وأعضاء من الكونغرس يجب ان يتحركو بسرعة لسن مجموعة قوانين هجرة عادلة وانسانيّة تمكّن العائلات من لم شملها ، و تنعش الاقتصاد وتزيل مصطلح االمهاجرين الذين لا يحملون اوراق الهجرة في هذا البلد. الاعلام العرقي الذي يصل الى أكثر من ستين مليون شخص في الولايات المتحدة يدعو الكونغرس للتحرك الحاسم لتعديل قوانين الهجرة لأن هناك القليل من الاشياء التي تؤثر على صحة المجتمع بقدر التأثير الناجم من نظام الهجرة غير الفعاّل ، وغير الانساني ، والمنهك للاقتصاد. الأهم من ذلك ندعو قرائنا و مشاهدينا أن يتصلو بأعضاء مجلس الشيوخ بالكونغرس واعلامهم بأن اصلاح قوانين الهجرة يجب أن تكون أولوية وطنية. نظام الهجرة معطّل ليس فقط للمهاجرين الغير حاصلين على أوراق و البالغ عددهم اثنى عشر مليون ولكن أيضا لأصحاب المهارات العالية الممنوعين من المشاركة في الاقتصاد الأمريكي بسبب قلة الحصص النسبية للمسموح لهم للحصول على أوراق الهجرة، وكذلك لأمهات ولآباء و لأخوة و لأخوات المواطنين الأمريكيين المجبرين على الانتظار لسنوات عديدة لاعادة لم شملهم مع عائلاتهم .أمتنا الأمريكية بحاجة الى قوانين هجرة شاملة تبدل النظام المعطّل الذي يعتمد على الاقتحامات والاعتقالات بنظام يحمي كل العمال من الاسغلال ، ويحسن الأمن الامريكي ، ويبني جاليات قوية . حان الوقت لانهاء التفريق بين العمّال الذي يسمح للشركات الكبيرة باستغلال جميع العمّال بغض النظر اذا كان معهم أوراق هجرة أم لا. من الواضح أن\\ المواطنين العاملين والمهاجرين العاملين لديهم الكثير من العوامل المشتركة مثل الحلم بالسكن في بيوت أفضل وتعليم أبنائهم والحصول على نظام صحي جيّد، فالأشياء المشتركة بيننا أكثر من نقاط الاختلاف بيننا. متحدين نستطيع أن نكون قوة كبيرة للتغيير، التغيير الذي يؤدي الى توفير الامان الأكبر للقوة العاملة و ظروف العمل الانسانية. الهجرة تعتبر قضية مثيرة للجدل ومفرّقة ، ولكن في الحقيقة هذا ليس صحيحا . منذ انهاء نظام الهجرة الذي كان يعتمد على اعطاء حصص نسبية للهجرة على حسب الانتماء الجغرافي للمهاجرين عام 1965 والذي كان يميز بين البعض من المهاجرين، تم الوصول الى اتفاق جماهيري بخصوص نظام هجرة يحترم المبادئ الاخلاقية الأمريكية الأساسية. هذه المبادئ تضم توفير الفرص الاقتصادية للنمو ، المساواة أمام القانون بغض النظر عن الأصل العرقي ، واحتضان العمال الأكثر ابداعا وحيوية وطموحا . أمريكا تواجه تنافس كبير مع دول أخرى للحصول على هؤلاء العمال و لذلك الآن هو الأكثر أهمية من أي وقت مضى لخلق نظام هجرة أفضل على مستوى عالمي حيث وهذا أفضل للعائلات و للجاليات ولأمريكا.

A Casa Branca e membros do Congresso devem agir com rapidez para promulgar uma reforma imigratória justa e humana que junte as famílias, revigore a economia e elimine os termos "ilegal" ou "imigrantes indocumentados" do discurso nacional.

Os órgãos de comunicação social étnicos, que alcançam mais de 60 milhões de adultos nos Estados Unidos, pedem ao Congresso que avance de uma forma decisiva rumo a uma reforma imigratória, visto existirem poucos assuntos mais importantes para o bem-estar do país do que uma mudança do actual sistema de imigração, que é ineficiente, desumano e economicamente debilitante. Mais importante ainda, pedimos também aos nossos leitores e telespectadores que contactem os seus senadores e congressistas para que estes saibam que a reforma imigratória tem de ser uma prioridade nacional.

O sistema de imigração não está a funcionar, não só para os 12 milhões de imigrantes indocumentados, mas também para trabalhadores especializados a quem é vedado juntarem-se à economia americana devido a quotas imigratórias demasiado baixas, e para mães, pais, irmãos e irmãs de cidadãos dos Estados Unidos que têm de esperar anos antes de poderem reunir-se às suas famílias.

A nossa nação necessita de uma política imigratória compreensiva que substitua um sistema falhado de rusgas e detenções por um que proteja todos os trabalhadores de exploração, melhore a segurança da América e fortaleça as comunidades. Chegou a altura de acabarmos com as divisões entre trabalhadores, que têm permitido a grandes corporações explorar ambos os lados. É claro que os cidadãos da classe trabalhadora e os imigrantes trabalhadores têm muito em comum - têm sonhos de ter uma casa melhor, acesso a educação para as suas famílias e cuidados de saúde de qualidade. Existem mais coisas que nos unem, do que nos separam. Los medios de comunicación étnicos, que alcanzan más de 60 millones de adultos en este país, llaman a que el Congreso avance en manera decisiva hacia una reforma, ya que hay pocos temas más importantes para el bienestar del país que un cambio al sistema de inmigración presente, que es ineficiente, inhumano y económicamente destructivo.

Más al grano, pedimos a nuestros lectores, telespectadores y radioescuchas que contacten sus senadores y representantes para comunicarles que la reforma migratoria debe ser una prioridad a nivel nacional.Nuestro sistema de inmigración está colapsado no sólo para los 12 millones de inmigrantes indocumentados, pero también para trabajadores especializados que no podrán sumarse a la economía por culpa de cuotas inmigratorias demasiado estrechas, y también para padres y hermanos de ciudadanos estadounidenses que deben esperar años antes de poder reunirse con sus familias.
