White Eagle newspaper.

Aleksander Kwasniewski, the former president of Poland, will speak at the Boston University (BU) School of Management on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at 5 p.m.

The topic of his presentation will be “The US and Europe: What is at stake for Europe and the World?”

The event is free, and a reception will follow the presentation.

Kwasniewski was the president of Poland from 1995 to 2005, a time during which Poland and other East European countries were going through the transition from communism to democracy, according to the Institute for Human Sciences at Boston University.

On July 16, 1997, he signed into law the then-new democratic Constitution of Poland, of which he is a co-author.As a president, Kwasniewski championed NATO’s acceptance of Poland, a membership which the country achieved in 1999. 

Likewise, he called for Poland’s admission into the European Union – which the country realized on May 1, 2004.The former president was an ally of the United States in the war in Iraq, sending Polish troops to the Iraqi front.
