The inaugural Kim Koo Academic Club, consisting of 18 pre-selected middle- and high-school students from New England, will meet at regular intervals in the coming months, under the guidance of Tufts University professor Sung-Yoon Lee and staff members of the Korean American Press.

The Club honors the spirit and legacy of Kim Koo (1876-1949), independence fighter, educator, and Premier of the Korean Provisional Government during World War II, in its commitment to developing the next generation of Korean leaders.

The mission of the Club is to educate young students to embrace Korean history and heritage, and to represent Korea to the broader American society and the world, through studying, debating, and writing about Korean history and various issues related to Korea today.

Beyond cultivating an appreciation for Korean history and culture, the Kim Koo Academic Club seeks to develop in young students, through academic and extracurricular activities, a sense of civic duty as a citizen of the world.

Orientation will take place from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, Saturday, October 18, 2008, at The KAP Conference Room, 3rd Floor, 300 Trade Center, Woburn, MA.

Professor Sung-Yoon Lee will give a lecture titled "Writing with Your Inner Ear," on the importance of developing one's writing skills, one of the major objectives of the Kim Koo Academic Club.

The orientation and lecture are open to the public.
